WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO BB? HOW LONG DID YOU TRAIN?
I heard about BB from a friend who went for postnatal classes and loved it. I got pregnant the week after a trip to Belgium and Germany so I didn’t get a chance to lose the sausage, waffle and beer weight I had gained. After not being impressed with prenatal yoga at a yoga studio, I tried the BB prenatal class on a Saturday and wasn’t able to walk properly until Thursday…surprisingly enough, I loved that feeling! I also love meeting other pregnant women in my area and going through this wonderful experience with them. I love meeting my prenatal friends’ babies and other new moms. What a great support group! After pregnancy I couldn’t wait for my 6 week clearance to start again. I am now doing 4 classes a week! At this point I have done 6 months prenatal and 3 months postnatal.
WHAT RESULTS HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED?
The result which I appreciate most is the confidence I have working out. BB is a very comfortable atmosphere with women who are mainly in the same boat as you are or inspire you to be better. The trainers are amazing; they are extremely approachable, well researched and are mothers as well. I believe being surrounded by such strong women really helps motivate me. If they can do it, why can’t I?
I led an extremely unhealthy lifestyle prior to pregnancy and I didn’t like the gym because I was intimidated and also had no idea what I was doing. Since I trained with BB in pregnancy, I was walking 3-5km every day two weeks after my c-section and lost my pregnancy weight quickly. Now I am just working on being the person I’ve always wanted to be — healthy, happy and strong!
HOW DO YOU STAY ACTIVE OUTSIDE OF BB?
I love walking with my family and feel so blessed to live near High Park and the Humber River! I figure a year from now I will be sitting in my office and looking outside and would hate myself if I spent this year predominantly on my couch.
WHAT IS YOUR #1 FITNESS GOAL NOW?
I want to be able to love running. I used to train for 5-10K races and hated the pressure of it; I ended up really hurting my ankle trying to go faster than my normal turtle pace. I want to run for myself, not a time or distance.
FAVE HEALTHY FOOD?
So when I said that I needed to work on being healthy I really meant it. I grew up in an extremely healthy house so after moving away for school I think the freedom to eat junk food was a little too much for me. Wow, what a rebel! I love love love fruit because it tastes like candy!
FAVE BB EXERCISE?
The one where a partner holds you back with a resistance band while you try to run is so much fun. I also kind of like the plank.
EXERCISE YOU WANT TO PUNCH IN THE FACE?
Jumping jacks! I swear I used to like them as a kid. Why are they so hard now?!
LAST SPLURGE FOOD OR DRINK?
My husband and I have a serious freezie addiction. Every night we have one…or two with other candies. Dara, please keep posting what you ate and make me feel guilty about this!
